Neat As Can Be, But Don't Open The Closet

Any woman who has attended my weekly bible study I host can attest to the fact that I keep a pretty clean house. What they don’t know is that if they randomly open any closet or cabinet, things could, and probably would, fall out and seriously injure them. It’s not that I don’t want to clean out closets. It’s just that I have a family and a life. Honestly, it is also that I hate it. Organizing takes time and effort. I don’t want to spend the hours it takes to clean what no one else will see. Hum? Sounds like a comparison we could make to our spiritual lives. It has always been a misconception of mine to focus on the outward cleanliness before the inward. God seems to be beating me over the head lately that he is not concerned with my outward appearances, but is very concerned with what is going on inside my heart. I know that becoming more presentable on the inside will take some time. I may have to open some cluttered closets, face some dirt and grime, and often be willing to ask for help when I can’t do it all alone. Sound like work? Yes, it is work, but the benefits will be enormous. Even though God may be the only one who sees these changes, you will rest in knowing that the rewards are eternal. Well, now I’m off to clean out some closets. Yes, the ones filled with junk too.
Now, check out the pics of the clean "outside" and the "messy" inside. I can't believe I'm showing you my husband's messy closet. The embarassment alone will motivate me.

Oh, boy, You should see my drawer's & the laundry room closet. I would just like to know how everything ends up in the laundry room or on my bed! You are not the only one that God is working on from the inside out. He is having me do some major housecleaning as well. Good luck!!

It always amazes me how God uses everyday things I can relate to to teach me major lessons of a spiritual nature! Good post!

What a beautiful home you have!

One of my favorite scriptures is "But it is not the spiritual life which came first, but the physical and then the spiritual." 1 Corinithians 15:46

In other words, I find that when things happen first in the 'natural' then the Lord will speak to my heart about the spiritual equivalent. So I find myself being very alert, in that sense, 'watching and praying' and expecting the Lord to use my everyday life to speak to me, just like He did with you!

Great post...thanks for being brave and sharing your hubby's closet. Hey~show us the 'after' picture!

You and me both, sister! You and me both.

The closets in my house are in pretty good shape. But I have some other closets that could use a good straightening out.

Love the analogy. Now you've gone and made me think. Sigh.....

Oh, this is something that God has shown me many times in my own life. I care WAY TO MUCH how I appear to others. WAY TO MUCH! Thanks for the analogy, great reminder! :D
