Monday Monday

I just started to hum that old Mamas and Papas song for some reason and the only words I could remember were "Monday Monday". Of course I had to go look up the rest of the lyrics and had to laugh. It is kind of a happy, yet depressing song at the same time. While on a Mamas and Papas website, I just started listening to all kinds of other songs from that era and I came across my alltime favorite voice. Do you want to know who it is? Karen Carpenter!!! It may sound chessy, but I just sat and listened to "Close to You" and started to boohoo cry. I love her voice and I love that song. It reminds me of when I was a little girl and my mom used to sing it to me, my brother and my sister. This time I started listening, and I thought of my sweet hubby. It is so close to V day so I've been kinda mushy with him lately. I thought I would share these sweet lyrics with you and bring you back down memory lane. Those of you who are old enough(Ahem) to remember this precious song.

Close to You

Why do birds suddenly appear
Every time you are near?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

Why do stars fall down from the sky
Every time you walk by?
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue.

That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around.
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair of gold
And starlight in your eyes of blue.

That is why all the girls in town
Follow you all around.
Just like me, they long to be
Close to you.

Just like me (Just like me)
They long to beClose to you.
Wahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you.
Wahhhhhhhhhhh, close to you.

If you get a chance, go download it. It is rare to find such a pure voice. I also love her version of "I Just Fall In Love Again", "We've Only Just Begun", "Rainy Days and Mondays", and "Top of the World." I know I am so cheesy, but I seriously want to download ever Carpenter song and make a CD for Skip. Hey, this may be his valentine gift. Shhh! Happy "Monday, Monday..."

Nice that you are reminiscing and humming the old Karen Carpenter song. Was always sad with what happened to her in her young life. Did you get a chance to watch the Grammy's. It was amazing to see the Eagles back together and to see String join them after twenty years! They were singing a lot of the oldies! lol

I used to love the Carpenter's. Haven't listened to their stuff for quite a while though. I might just have to go on over there.

For some reason I often hear a Karen Carpenter song while shopping in the commissary. I think she had an absolutley beautiful voice. We saw a special where they interviewed her brother about her life. She died in such a tragic way. I too feel sad when I listen to her sing.

She did have the most beautiful, clear voice. So nice and simple. We listen to oldies on Sirrius radio in our car and she's on, pretty often. What a great valentines gift idea - a specially made CD.

I know that song... tune and all... does that mean I'm old? :-)
