My Favorite Christmas Memory

MomRN2 is hosting a wonderful holiday get together at "My Quiet Corner". We are invited to share our favorite Christmas memory and then link to her site for more wonderful stories.
My favorite memory occurred two years ago on Christmas Eve. If any of you know about my life during the week leading up to Christmas, it can get a little lonely. I have my precious children to keep me busy with all the preparations for Christmas, but my husband spends a great deal of time at the church that week. We typically have about 3 to 4 days of Christmas Eve services so everyone gets a chance to experience our wonderful celebrations of Christ's love at Christmas.
I don't every want my children to have any bad feelings about the time my husband is at the church, so we save all our cookie baking, looking at Christmas lights and other fun activities for that time. They don't seem to miss daddy that much, and he takes off the whole week after Christmas to make up for it. I, however, was feeling a bit lonely the whole day of Christmas Eve two years ago. It was very cold, and there was rain in the forecast. Instead of feeling lonely, my son Seth and I started focusing our time on praying that God would make a miracle occur for us this Christmas. We prayed it would Snow! Yes, I know it isn't really possible this far south, but the conditions seemed so perfect. As we started watching the weather channel, it seemed more and more likely that it could occur. We were really praying now, and as we left for church to go to the last Christmas Eve service of the night, the sky had clouds we had never seen before. I started to get a little excited at the thought of the kids catching snowflakes on their tongue, or even gathering up enough for a snowball or two. Now remember, my kids have never had snow in Corpus and the only times they have played it is in Colorado in June (yucky dirty snow).
As the last song was played during service, Skip opened the doors to the sanctuary, and the most miraculous thing was happening. It was SNOWING! We aren't talking little snowflakes either. We are talking beautiful, gigantic snowflakes. Everyone was praising God and in quite a bit of shock. We as a family played from 8:30 until midnight outside in about 5 to 6 inches of snow. Neighbors came together building snowmen, and talking about the miracle of what was happening. My son Seth to this day believes that his prayer is what made it happen. It was truly a Christmas I will never forget.
The next morning we drove to see our families just and hour and a half north and found that they had 10 inches of snow. What a day my kids had! It was a blessing to top all blessings. I loved every minute of that Christmas and the kids will never forget God's goodness that he gave us that Christmas night.

I wanted to do the "Christmas memory" but my site has been down all day. Now that it's back I thought about doing it but decided to read the others instead...I LOVE your story & memory! I've learned so much this week in my "Daniel" bible study about prayer & at church last night & also read this: "Nothing moves the heart of God more than prayer" I'd say your son's prayer definitely made it happen & what a sweet, powerful lesson he learned!
God has so many things stored up for us & He's just waiting for us to come to Him and talk to Him.
What a wonderful Christmas memory your family will have for many years. Thanks for sharing it.

I remember that night at church like it was yesterday. To this day we still talk about sliding down our backyard hill with card board boxes and Tobin just plopping down face forward in the snow. It was a sight to see and a true gift from God!

I've lived in Colorado for so many years I take snow for granted, Susie. But I grew up in southeast Texas so I remember how miraculous it was to get snow. As a matter of fact, I only remember it snowing one time in the 18 years I lived in Texas. So it's no surprise that this is such a special memory. I love the way you describe the joy everyone felt when this happened. What perfect timing, too. Snow for Christmas. That doesn't always happen even here!

Oh my, I can see why that is a favorite! I'll bet it will be one of your sons favorite's as well.. especially since his prayers made it all happen! :-)

Did you feel like you were in the movies? It sounds like something that would happen on the big screen, the miracle of it all!!

Thanks for participating and sharing such a wonderfully surprising Christmas memory!

Susie, last night our neighborhood had a 5 hour City blackout so I missed your wonderful post!

What a touching and delightful memory. Seth's prayer was answered for sure and it blessed the whole city! A miracle to treasure and hold dear to your heart for all time to come.

I appreciate the gentle reminder that your sweet hubby, as pastor and your wonderful family sacrifices for the love of so many during this blessed Christmas season...Thank you!

What a wonderful memory! We love snow and have a better chance of it here in the northern states, but it's not guaranteed. I know it's tough when your husband is a minister this time of year. I'ts great you could focus on your children and make it special anyway.

I think the Lord did answer Seth's prayer. And I just love it when that happens.
That's a beautiful memory. You're doing a great job as a Mom. I know it is sometimes difficult for pks in so many ways. You are making positive memories with your children. I know the Lord will bless that.
Thanks for sharing your special memory. It's beautiful.

It always seems to snow in Dallas once a year, and that is usually in Feb or March. We had a Christmas snow several years back as well and it was indeed a beautiful sight!!!

Thank you so much for your visit to my blog and your offer of help with Parker's nutritional needs. I'd love to talk with you! This is going to be a trial by error kind of thing and the less error....the better!

Wow ~ what a wonderful memory! Of course it was his prayer that made it snow! I can see why that's your favorite, and I'm shocked that you got so much snow and not just a little.
