If It's Not One Thing, lt's Another

Just as things started getting back to normal around here (whatever that is), Annie decided to give body surfing on the living room floor a try last night. She pushed back the furniture to the wall while I was talking on the phone and doing dishes, and started diving onto a pillow at full force speed to slide across the open floor. Well, on the 4th or 5th run the pillow slid out from under her and she put too much weight on her right hand. The scream was probably heard from 30 miles away. After she finally caught her breath (another story), we were able to see that it was a hit pretty hard. We put some ice on it and let her rest for a while. She seemed okay and fell asleep without any problem.

However, isn't there always a however, it became apparent that it may be more than just a sprain when she couldn't move it this morning. She was crying when she woke up, and absolutely not using it for anything. I got right into the doctor's office and they sent me over for several x-rays on her hand and wrist. We probably won't have the results until tomorrow morning.

Do you know what I find most interesting about things that happen to my family now, as compared to years ago before real trials in my life? First, I try to calmly assess situations before freaking out. Second, I immediately pray and acknowledge that God is in control and knows the outcome even when I don't. Third, I ask him to help me with whatever is going to occur next. I ask for strength, wisdom and ability to press forward no matter how overwhelming things seem. Today it is just a small fracture or sprain for Annie, but tomorrow could bring a lot worse for me, my family or my friends. Let's stay focused on God's truth which will never leave us alone or without hope.

When I opened your blog and saw the picture of Annie's wrist, my breath caught. I'm sorry she's been in pain, she probably needs some emergency ice cream! Whether it's a break or sprain, they both can be equally painful. I hope she 'mends up' very quickly.
(I loved and meditated on the last few lines of your entry- you show a lot of wisdom, Susie)

I love the part where you said you ask the Lord to help you with what will occur next. Placing the situation in God's hands and trusting Him to know better than us. Beautiful!

Praying Annie's hand and wrist heals quickly.

I'd call that real wisdom Susie.
Praying it isn't a break and that she'll be all healed up quickly.
